Prepare for 2001 yearly inspection:

Background As i didn't have my 944 in use during 2000 i therefore never had it inspected it either. But unfortunately inspection i took it to 1999 was for 1998. You see, register number ends with 0 and that means i should go to yearly inspection at December. And at December this car is usually no longer used and inspection delayed. Confusing ? For me it is anyway.
But as a result of this i knew in that if my 944 is not inspected during 2001 i'll loose the plates and have to go through more authoral registration inspection if and when i want to drive this thing on public roads. As a confirmation of this i got an offical letter about this in spring.
I could have just taken it to inspection, but since there was obvious signs of extended time not being used at all i wanted to do a complete overhaul before taking it again to daily use.

New paint Most visible problem was paint actually dropping off and bubbles underneath the paint. I had this car painted in 1995 and obviously something went wrong then because this started to show as early as 1996 or 1997. Car was stripped of all old paint.
Result is quite OK, considering the time schedule and starting point.

A/C system Air conditioning system has never worked while i have had this car. But i decided it was finally time to tackle this issue.

Cruise Control This was the first car i own with cruise control and i must say i like it. But for some reason it stopped working and i had to unplug the actuator motor because of a rattling sound when ignition is on.

Interior fixes Years of use and standing in humid conditions has left marks on seats and interior panels of this 944. After i violently removed the radio from center console it didn't help this issue either.

Winter tyres No more yearly out-of-service periods to save insurance costs! I now plan to drive my 944 year around as it's obvious it's not getting any better standing unused. That is, unless i really have a good warm and dry place to do it properly - which i don't have. So i need to select new tyres for winter use too.

More to come...
