Explorer operation (2001-09-30)

Finally a bit longer test drive.

Very typical autumn day: Sun shine and about 15C (59F). Not so much wind as yesterday, but still some. Forecast was that we'd get a stormy weather for next day.

Wind wasn't too bad in the beginning 5-7m/s (16-18mph) but during the day increased some.

Plan was to do white water tour, but due to low water level that idea was discarded and instead i headed to bay. Four onboard we quickly got to open waters and i steered SE and quickly pick up speed as we had tail wind. In no time we got to our destination, which was my wife's grandparents house.

After coffee break we started to head back, but naturally this time head wind of course. Before that i almost got suck between river bank and trawler, but managed to get through that narrow spot with a friendly helping hand from my father-in-law. Also chopped some willows while maneuvering in tight place, but no harm done there.

As soon as it was possible i throttled the craft and we got speed up for the head wind section os the trip we were to inevitably encounter. Other option would have been to continue tail wind and take the river back to hoverport, but that would have been 3-4times longer route.

Gradually speed decreased below hump speed when wind hit us and i did a little bit of "sic-sac" for easier travel. Everything went fine though and soon we could again head for tail wind. And in no time we were safely back ashore.
