Just plain old fashioned ordinary
hovering. |

Day started much like yesterday and i was looking forward
to go for another drive. Absolutely no wind, not at all. Forecast was good
weather for weekend. |
|
Day started foggy, but unlike yesterday fog didn't disappear.
Well, you can't have both: dead calm and sun shine. At least not this late
at fall. |
|
It was just me onboard and i was determined to go for a
longer trip today. As my father-in-law was going to check the fishing nets
i started just before him heading for the bay. Weather called for navigational
lights which i put on: flashing yellow, bright all-around and red and green
sidelights. |
|
River section was just fine, but when i got to bay fog
was really thick, like a white wall. Visibility varying from 20-40m (70-130ft).
Finally a real chance to check the accuracy of waypoints i created with
map software. I stopped the craft for awhile to wait my father-in-law to
get there too. I asked him if he thought he could find the place where
he put his nets and he assured me that fog is not that thick yet. I had
my GPS, he had his lifetime experience exploring these waters. We both
headed our ways. Feeling a little bit uncomfortable i steered the craft
to first waypoint. |
|
As waters got bigger the fog got thicker. It really was
a bit surrealistic: all white, absolutely dead calm water and round sun
shining brigthly somewhere behind that fog. Before getting to the first
waypoint simply fear got better of me and i turned back ! That didn't last
too long when i again took the course towards first waypoint. |
|
Got there easily and then to the next, and next. These
were just some 200-400m (220ft-440ft) apart. Visibility varied on different
spots and sometimes it was 15-20m and sometimes almost 100m. I did max.
25km/h, but mostly 10-12km/h since these where put in place with pointing
a mouse on a digital map and they can be up to some 50m of from real world.
I didn't want to hit anyones summer cottage with 40km/h... That would ruin
the day i think. |
|
Waypoints where in place, just like i'd imagine they be.
After passing number 6 and heading for 7 engine started coughing, just
like it did yesterday in the beginning of tour. |
|
I turned back right away and this time followed my track
back to hoverport. I knew my track was OK so i incresed the speed all i
could (engine would not run over 2600rpm) showing 30km/h in GPS. All the
way back i had this problem, but got home safely. Couldn't find any problems
and after checking the most obvious i did a test drive and didn't have
any problems. One idea that was later brought up is that maybe carb is
icing. I'm having hard time to believe that since air intake is underneath
the engine hood and there is quite warm there. |
