Mother's Day drive. |

Time to do a Mother's Day visit to place where only hovercraft
can go. (Well, not exatcly but one of the few places when hovecraft can
be used instead of a car, so why not!) |
|
Weather was quite a windy and as day went on windier it
got. We started ~11:00AM heading to bay in headwind for couple of kilometers
(more than a mile) and turned to other bay heading tailwind. We only did
about 5km (3miles) one way and did it fast. There were four people onboard
and couple of them had to move to backseat in order to get craft in balance
in these wind conditions. |
|
Going tail wind is not a problem you'll get there eventually
one way or the other. When we were coming back couple of hours later it
was a different game Now we had head wind blowing over the Gulf of Bothnia
all over from Sweden. Waves were about 50cm (2ft) and our route was directly
against the wind. I tried to sneak behind islands (both of them) but most
of the way back it was very slow transportation. And poor 1,6lSoob was
roaring at full throttle. |
|
But when i turned to sidewind and further on tailwind i
had to release back throttle and we were still doing almost 50km/h and
accelerating. |
|
I let people off and prepared for water land transition.
Water level is now 20cm (8") below normal and even during normal water
there is a step from river to ashore. I built some speed up and as bow
was on land i backed up the throttle and managed to do quite nice landing
with turning the craft without assistance to ready to go position. |
|
We did 10km (6miles) and spend less than an hour hovering.
I don't bother copying the radiotor remarks
from last Operation. |
