Explorer operation (2001-04-29)

First full open water operation for the season.

Forecast was nothing but sun shine and it actually turned out to be that way too. In the morning it was also totally calm, but when day got further wind started to rise too.

We took approximately 10km spin around the close bay and small creek. Weather was quite warm and actually we seemed to have a minor over heat problem, but not so much that it would have restricted us in any way.

We noticed few canoers on our way. I carefully passed them in good speed not to cause unnecessary waves and trip them over or something. Water is still rather cold this time of year. It has been less than week since last of the ice went away.

We also checked the water level by driving upstream where the first of the low bridges is located. We could have gotten under engine shut and prop turned to X-position, but current was still rather strong and we certainly would have had to drag a lot in order to get through. Since we didn't have to go to the other side we just turned back.

Didn't have my GPS with me, but i guess we did 10-12km (6-7miles) and spend about an hour hovering. The weather was really warm ~15C (60F). It was quite warm in the Explorers cabin since it's rather well protected from the wind. Most probably bigger radiator placed better in air stream is needed for summertime operations. But more of this in future Construction report.
