Explorer operation (2000-08-20)

Sunday turned out to be much nicer what comes to weather. Wind was practically non-existing and sun was shining.
But engine problems continued on Sunday. Engine would run for short period and then adjustement had to be made. We did go to explore open waters on a second day because of reliabilty issue. It was easier to make adjustement when peacefully floating in side of vegetation in calm water.
Finally we ran out of adjustement in contact breaker switch and we had to go and buy another breaker. Lucky enough local gas station had them in stock and we were able to continue our experiments. Same visit new capacitor was purchased also. We also sanded the cam which operates breaker switch with fine sandpaper and after that there was no need for adjusting ignition over and over.
Still, we had ran that engine with first contact breaker for several hours in total and it's too early to blame rusty distributor shaft for everything, but it's definetely in a list of thing to be followed.
I'm starting to learn how to control this large craft and Saturdays trip, even we ended up being towed, convinced me of Explorers capability to handle rough waters and quite a wind.
One of the most important things: my girlfriend wouldn't have come boating with me in that wind on Saturday, but she really enjoyed HOVERING over those waves. Craft really smoothed waves when travelling faster.
Sunday afternoon we did some serious weed run and almost ended up stucking in the middle of 1,5m riverside vegetation. More throttle, moving load to back and swinging the craft helped.
While doing the last landing i slid to ashore too much sideways and propeller chopped some smaller branches of close by willow. No damage was found after inspecting the prop, just greenish color on blades.
Man, it was fun !

Unfortunately we all were so busy with engine problems that no-one had time to use cam-recorder or camera. So no pics or video this time.
