Another carb check and new tank - II

Vacation is over since two weeks, but project still not finished.

Me, my father and father-in-law decided to test the new tank as soon as possible. I purchased fuel hose since tank connections are located bit differently from original. I also made careful planning of other items i need to take with to install and test things. Yeah, rigth....

I must say the new tank looks good ! It's black which perhaps is the worst color for gasoline tank, but this was agreed that it can be painted in any color that is going on at their shop in greater quantities. I just wanted some coating and got it at reasonable price. My father prepared some wooden blocks to be bolted to legs. I removed temporary cardboard covers and cleaned the coating from threads and so on. At this point i noticed first item i had left home: fuel gauge sender unit was still in my garage. We quickly made temporary cover of sheet metal to close the sender unit hole.

After we picked up my father-in-law and were driving to hoverport, i remembered other items that was missing. Motor cycle fuel tank cap was not installed when tank did the trip to coating. It's not at home, but in the trunk of our other car at my father-in-law's place where we just minutes earlier left. We did not turn back for that, since the clock was ticking.

Installation was straight forward job. We didn't have to change the hoses, allthough fuel line will be changed as it's now routed quite tightly without any slack in it. While i did the tank installation, my father installed the new airfilter and my father-in-law looked for temporary fuel tank cap. We started with 20liters of fuel and tested the fuel circulation. It took some time but finally electric pulse lifted enough gasoline to pump it back to tank.

Few weeks back, after three years of standing still, engine started right away. But this time we had hard time starting it. Once it started it run nicely though. After warming up we tied the craft to couple of trees and started testing. There was still some hesitation, but now throttle response was much better and i could reach 4000rpm at full throttle. We let the craft run there for awhile, changing from idle to full throttle and running at operating rpm longer time. Both coolant and oil temperatures stayed in their normal values and nothing strange or out of the ordinary was noticed.

I wanted to take the craft out on the water, but both my father and father-in-law suggested we leave that until Saturday. Then we would have more time for repairs and hoist the craft back ashore. Talk about disbelief. But since they both have been very helpful i did not push my point of view through.

Test turned out to be succesful and Saturday it would be time for water operation. Some cleaning has to be done first though. 6 years of outdoor storage has left signs, both in and out.
