Engine

Hauling the engine to weldshop for third time seems to have done the trick. We were just about to install intake manifold back to the engine after second welding when i noticed a obvious crack beginning just were one of the welds ends. There was no need to even put a test pressure in the cooling system, crack was so obvious.

But now everything seems to be patched. Allthough after welding it for third time head gasket had damaged so much that it didn't hold anymore. The very next day to autoparts store and place an order of gasket set as Subaru gasket sets they do not store.

While waiting gasket set to arrive we had the aluminium heads level machined. An indeed they were quite warped according to workshop. We suspected this because of the way how old head gasket came loose, well in contact with surfaces on top and not at all at bottom of gaskets. Also on the list of things to do is to fix threaded holes for exhaust manifold. In order to remove heads exhaust system had to be removed also and most of the bolts came of the head rather than nut loosening from bolt. And couple of these threaded holes were so much damaged that there is no way to make bolts hold. I'm thinking of putting in helicoil threads if i'm able to do that without taking heads to yet another workshop for this.

I'll snap few pics again when i get a chance to do that. Until then you may want to take a look of how welds that didn't hold up looked like.
