Engine cover complete, problems with ignition parts
Finally installed the new engine cover and aluminium plates that go
with it. Now all the vital parts of the engine are well covered in case
of occasional spray...
The "new" electronic distributor didn't
fit to the engine. I thought i had -89 Subaru engine, but according to
trader of this unit it's likely to be -84 or earlier as older EA-71's have
longer drive shaft than -85 and newer models. As a bonus they should even
rotate to different direction so no go there. They promised my money back
however so no big loss there.
Already contacted a company which sells electronic
aftermarket replaments to breakerpoint ignitions and hope to hear from
them soon.
Possibly i could enhance my current ignition system by using ignition
coil with ballast resistor. Electric system in this particular Explorer
operates at 15V voltage which can be harmful to for example breaker points,
but i have my heart setup for electric distributor.
As there was no hovering in sight we dismantled propeller thrust to
be replaced with longer shaft to get Ivoprop
propeller spinning further away from bearing housing. It'll be challenging
task to adjust belts once again after removing this shaft, but it sure
is not going to be the last time we adjust them. So far i haven't treated
the thrust propeller frame and engine craddle in any way so they are quite
rusty already. I want to test them properly before hot dip galvanizing
them. After that welding them is out of the question if i don't want to
have them treated again.
I'm planning to bend at least the first bows for soft top later this
evening to get that finally also started too. |
